My Little Pond, Mid-Freeze

And suddenly, just like that, it turned colder. With temperaturess in the low 20s F in the morning, I decided to stroll up to the Scotia Barrens to check out the ice patterns on the ponds.

I visited four of my favorite ponds, this one being the very best (and closest), of course. Three were partially frozen. One was completely liquid, still; I have no idea what special magic kept it that way, but I suspect the pine needles that are mixed in.

Ice has not yet completely taken over the surface of this pond. On the portions of the pond that are sort of blocked by logs or branches, the freeze has begun. The pond is quite shallow and with a few more cold nights in store, it won't take long for the whole thing to turn to ice.
