Bean is practising her Cap’n-ing in an appropriately named vessel that she found beached high and dry in the Kakanui Rivermouth.

It is a wonderful spot for a picnic. I met a couple of friends who added quiche to the sammies, cake and raspberries I supplied. We ate heartily and laughed until we cried about nothing much.

The extras are the views up and down river. The weather was flawless. Until the thunderstorm arrived. Then we packed up and scrambled for cover.
