The bronze man has a certain sadness
A way of looking
Like life has caught him frozen in the moment
And there is a weight that holds him stuck
If you ask him
He will say none of this
He will ask how you are and what you’ve been doing
He will smile and even dance a little
To show how smoothly his weight shifts
Like a boxer
Who doesn’t want you to know he’s hurt
While the ropes are hard on his back
And so you’ll smile too
And ask if he needs anything
Because that’s your job
And the rules of the game
He’ll say
No mate
And life is good
He’ll talk about something else
Like the music you once made together
A long time ago
In another place and another life
He’ll even smile again as he turns and goes
But you’ll see he still carries the weight of himself
And you’ll feel the sadness
Carried in his eyes
