The Old Neptune, Whitstable

First visit to Whitstable for a while. We thought it would be less busy today as the schools were back. It was quieter, some children around probably owing to training days. I’m glad not to be contemplating returning to the classroom. Those who are deserve our grateful thanks as do NHS staff who are under immense pressure.

There was a bitingly cold northerly breeze off the sea and although it was sunny it felt arctic. We managed to find a shelter, out of the wind facing the sun, for our packed lunch and then repaired to a newly opened cafe for coffee.

Yesterday was one of the highest tides in a while. In Maidstone there was a risk of flooding. Along the north Kent coast the flood barriers were in place. It wasn’t much lower today, only a few centimetres. We’d never seen the harbour so full of water.

Todays blip was taken on the way back to the car as the sun set in the south west. The Old Neptune is a very popular pub, especially in the summer, right on the beach. We’re looking forward to being able to have a safe, relaxing drink in there sooner rather than later.

Thanks for your feedback on the bike lights. You all think I should keep them on. So I will, at least until the equinox!

Edit: Is this negative space? I forgot to acknowledge BobsBlips for hosting Wide Wednesday.
