This compact fluorescent lamp gave a large 'Pop' noise recently, and has now been replaced with an even more efficient LED type, which will hopefully last longer than this one.

As the above, like near enough all fluorescent types, contains traces of mercury, you're not allowed to just chuck them out. The local recycling centre will have a special bin for collecting and appropriately dealing with such items.
