Eye to eye across 2500 years

I had a lovely day in Cambridge, the main purpose was to visit the Gold Of The Great Steppe exhibition at the Fitzwilliam Museum, it did not disappoint. This show told some of the story of the Saka people, who lived in East Kazakhstan during the 1st Millennium BC. Most of the treasures are burial ornaments, beautifully made and revealing a complex history of this part of the world. The exhibition is unique to the Fitz, at the end of January everything goes home. It's here because the museum, in collaboration with art historians in Cambridge, has a long research connection with Kazakh historians. If you can, VISIT! 

In the main pic I wanted an overview of the second room and luckily this visitor was looking straight into the face of a reconstructed high status woman in her burial costume (see extra for the front view). 

The other extras are better explanations than I could give. The Fitz is such a gem of a museum. Not only is the permanent collection endlessly fascinating, all the exhibitions are free, even big ones like a whole bunch of Vermeers a few years ago.
