Introducing Tweet, our tame Blackbird
I tamed and taught to eat from my hand a couple of years ago. He is a real character and the Alpha male among the many blackbirds we feed every day with Sultanas. He has given us hours of pleasure over the time we have known him, Aidan, my husband has taken on feeding duties and takes it very seriously indeed, he loves interacting with the birds and watching the hierarchy at work. Tweet has taught his successive broods of young to come for food over the time we have known him and I have had very entertaining video of the process of feeding them then teaching independence.
Today, with snow on the ground, he was happy to follow us into the porch to take a couple of sultanas from the dish - we usually feed them under the car just outside the door. We thought to begin with in the late Autumn that we had lost him to age or a predator but suddenly one day we realised he was back, looking very smart after his Autumn moult - we were so relieved and happy to see his familiar behaviour snd slightly twisted leg which marks him out. I hope we see him rear another brood in the Spring and I can post updates.
