Reading
After a post-Christmas tidy up, I found this unread novel on my bookshelves. It’s a retelling of Euripides’ Greek tragedy Iphigenia at Aulis. Superb writing, quietly brilliant. Barry Unsworth is one of my favourite historical novelists but for some reason he seems to be somewhat overlooked. His novel on the slave trade, Sacred Hunger, was joint winner of the 1992 Booker Prize with Michael Ondaatje’s The English Patient. Worth taking a look.
