Bush fires in the Brecon Beacons

Dropping Ellie off at climbing club in Llangorse this evening there were plumes of thick black smoke rising from the hills behind the centre. We took the car as close as we could and then went on by foot. There were two fire engines in the layby. Rather a steep hill later we could see the fires burning off the heather while the Brecon Beacons behind were still sheathed in snow. Eventually the firemen ( and women) appeared on the horizon. Not realising how far sound travels one was heard to exclaim " Why the f**k would anyone lug a tripod up here" as he passed me some minutes later I said sheepishly " It's pretty light really and folds down small" - not sure who felt more embarrassed!
Views were stunning but don't really come across in my photo's. May need to invest in a different lense for landscapes.
