All kinds of everything

Did a return trip to Edinburgh today to take Daughter Two home after spending Christmas and New Year with us.

We left before nine in light rain and as we drove eastwards and upwards we entered the snow-covered hills, quite spectacular, and eventually around Tyndrum the snow was right down to the roadside, though fortunately the roads themselves were quite clear. Pretty chilly though - only 2°C according to the car thermometer, though in Edinburgh it was 7°.

Over the last few days there have been a number of roads closed due to snow, but it's gradually disappearing. When we arrived I went for a wander to stretch my legs and get some air, walking up Slateford Road. This part of Edinburgh is not on a tourist route and is rather spoilt by rubbish, with furniture dumped beside the bins and Christmas trees lying everywhere! People apparently drive to the area in the cars and dump their junk there! The railway embankments are pretty disgusting too.

Still, in case I might be thought of as being in Grumpy Mode, I should say that there are some interesting buildings along the road too, though I'm not sure what this particular one was built for. Must investigate!
