Braemar Station to Twizel
It was cool and overcast when we set off today - perfect for cycling. We had a steep, gravel driveway to negotiate before starting on 17kms of gravel road, which was challenging at times. It was quite a relief when we got onto sealed road again. After 5kms we arrived at the off-road trail, which skirted the eastern shore of Lake Pukaki, then around the southern end of the lake and down to Twizel. Another day of magnificent scenery. We weren’t in a hurry, as there was only 42kms to do, so we were able to enjoy being on our bikes and admiring our surroundings.
We stopped in a shady glade for lunch not far from Twizel, then cycled the last couple of kilometres to the town centre, where we stopped for coffee before checking into our motel and enjoying a much-needed shower. Because of the gravel road and track we were covered in dust.
The main blip shows, clockwise from top left, setting off this morning, looking ahead on the trail, looking back at where we’ve come from and a shady spot for lunch.
Thx extra is of a wonderful cloud formation.
