Cherry trees at the UW
It seems we are spending much of this 24 hour period at the UW so it seemed the appropriate time to blip the cherry trees in the quad. Almost too late however. Big wind last night brought a lot of petals down and it's almost over anyway. There are maybe 30 of these Japanese Yoshino Cherry trees here and all are getting old and diseased - 2 have died recently. What will happen to this spot that's so magical for at least 2 weeks a year?
Last night we were there for a rehearsal of the Seattle Opera Young Artists program, Vive Verdi - a free event with reception for some subscribers of Seattle Opera (and we are on year #43 of this list!) fun but would prefer less interruptions..
Midday today we attended the current Oceanography 200 class and had lunch with the professor from 102, (who is helping in this class but will be having a baby in May). She's a delight and so enthusiastic as well as optimistic about her field - We hope she can find time to bring her family up to our cottage on the Salish Sea. (and perhaps also some of the other students who are studying nearby could use it..)
And tonight is a talk on campus by some younger Salish artists connected with the Burke Museum, showing new work with new media and traditional NW Coast Salish designs and interpretations.
Music, science, art, oh my -too many interesting things to do in this town - not enough time. We are lucky to live this close to the UW. Tomorrow night we need to stay home! :-)
