Red and Blue
We went to a blue plaque unveiling in Torquay today but found it had been cancelled at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances. The Torbay Civic Society were due to unveil a plaque on a villa which was once the home of Sir Charles Dashwood, Captain of HMS Sylph and appointed Vice Admiral in 1841. This was a replacement plaque for one that mysteriously disappeared. At least I was able to collect a photograph of this Victorian post box, nearby which Is on the same road. The lovely house is almost opposite the secluded villa overlooking the harbour which was rented by great train robber Bruce Reynolds before he was arrested there in the early morning of November 9 1968. There will be no blue plaque on that one. We don’t do infamous or notorious. He gave a false name and address when he joined the library. This is Torquay.
