Another shieling site
A little bit of a trek out to a couple of shielings that we visited several years ago. After five more years of experience, one can understand a lot more than hitherto aboiut individual sites and tihs was a good one.
D's drone and not mine took this image setting the green shieling mound in its context. With a Norse shieling name still extant here - Hornary - it is likely to be an old site. This was helped by finding a quern stone here which pushs its history back into the Iron Age. Indeed one can see a circular outline in the building and I imagine it was a wheelhouse at some stage in prehistory.
