The sunshine returned today and most welcome it was too, following a couple of days of incessant grey drizzleage.
Following a busy morning’s work, I made sure to get out into the sunshine at lunch for a stroll around the lockdown loop. Since before Christmas the route now features a diversion past the church (ooooh, the width) due to the flood work that is going on adjacent to the river path. Piled against the church were a number of Christmas trees, which had been unceremoniously dumped there. I felt a slight tinge of sadness at the thought that but a short time ago these had been the centre of attention, adorned in lights and trinkets, surrounded by presents, but now having served their purpose for the briefest of moments their services were no longer required and the woodchipper or zoo animals hungrily awaited their arrival.
The loop comes back along the canal path and past some allotments which is where I snapped today’s shot; another victim of storm Arwen. I’m still staggered by the sheer amount of trees which were blown down that night – as I passed the graveyard I could hear the buzz of chainsaws working their way through the numerous trees which had been toppled and were now in the process of being cleared.
The rest of the day passed uneventfully, with nothing more than a final clearing of the loft space (getting quite good at finding new spaces around the rest of the house for stuff to go) and watching The Lost Daughter on Netflix which was excellent and is definitely recommended viewing.
