more lichen (on bare larch trees)

Photo unrelated to current UK news, which makes me think about misleading and being misled.  A proverb (which I've just made up) says 'If you put your faith in a con-artist don't be surprised to find yourself conned.'  There are probably older, more elegant and more humorous versions, which i would love to hear.
