Random Acts of Grace
I met up with three of my birder friends this morning to walk on a trail we've not been on in several months. Although icy in patches, it was an enjoyable walk and we counted 26 species of birds. But the real surprise was when we looked ahead of us on the trail and saw a smallish (6 foot) Eastern Red Cedar decorated with ornaments! It was just...delightful.
As we all stood around talking about it and admiring the many lovely ornaments, along came two women who proceeded to tell us that they'd started this 3 years ago. The first year, she said, someone removed and smashed all the ornaments. After which they considered not doing it again. But in 2020, after the horrors of Covid, they decided to once again decorate this little tree. And again in 2021. This year, other random people have added their own ornaments to the tree. And someone else hung a bird-seed ball on a tree on the opposite side of the trail. There was something about the whole thing that just restored my faith in humanity and ability of people to just do nice things for no particular reason. She said she and her friend were planning to undecorate the tree tomorrow so I'm so very glad we went today and were able to see it.
My foot was quite sore when I came back from the walk so I wrapped a heated bean-bag thingie around it and propped it up for a while. Then, the pupster was climbing the walls so I took him for a short walk (only about a half mile). He has his second Obedience class tonight so that will allow him to burn off some more puppy energy. We've done quite a few "enrichment" toys/activities today which also helps. Currently, he's curled up in his bed next to my desk, making old-man noises. At least he isn't farting so much anymore!
Tomorrow's high will be 40 which will be a nice break before we head into the teens on Saturday.
Dark with ginger and lime today.
