Living my dream

By Mima

Gone

There were no signs of injury to this skink I found dead on the road, although it was missing its tail (not usually fatal).

I see them all the time in the garden, but they move way too fast for me to get any kind of photograph, so I decided to grab the opportunity to capture this rather more stationary one.

They love hiding beneath the mulch and weed-mat with which I cover the veg beds. They need all the protection they can get. Rats, cats, hedgehogs, mustelids and various birds all prey on them.

I spent the morning helping in a friend’s garden, then came home and had the rest of the day off. Last night I felt as though a truck had hit me, I was so tired from several days of nonstop harvesting, processing, dog walking, more harvesting, more processing.

I shall pace myself better from now on…

The extra is the apex predator who got spooked by two kittens jumping out of a tree onto her back this morning. Lion Hound? Pah! She’s been recovering in the sun ever since.

She is an expert at pacing herself.
