The tree, the tower, and the moon
This little scene was seen on our walk today. It was really windy all day, roaring around the house and shaking the cladding. We drove to the main road and over to a minor road on the other side, where we reckoned there would be sun (there was) and perhaps less wind (no luck there).
The shaky looking tower is for elk hunting. The hunter sits up there in the autumn, with a clear view over the field beyond, and waits for an elk to walk over that field. It's not the first time I've blipped this... so I added an extra of the winding road we walked, and then drove, along.
When we'd finished our walk we drove along the small road as a scenic route to our local shop. We found two horses and riders on the road in front of us and they moved into single file so we could drive by, but the horses were having none of it and as we approached they both started cantering away, almost breaking into a gallop. We stopped and let them get well ahead and then we made another attempt, but with the same result. After that we followed a long way behind for about 5 minutes until there was a side road, which the horses turned up, enabling us to pass. I remember from my younger days working in Wales that a blustery gale could make horses very nervous.
We were impressed that yesterday everything was so icy that very little traffic was moving, and today all the roads are gritted or salted and life is completely back to normal. I like living here!
