Sparkling Appledore

This shows part of the estuary, and part of the shipyard. The shipyard has had a precarious recent past, closed down in 2018 by the then owners Babcock as there were no orders. It’s now been bought by Harland and Wolf and there are hopes that the future will be brighter for this important employer. The extra is of some of the attractive houses facing the estuary. We walked along a narrow street called Irsha Street, which reminded me of St Ives - lovely old cottages backing onto the sea; sadly most seemed to be holiday lets.
We were there for the funeral of my daughter in law’s grandmother - the service was in Barnstaple, and then the gathering after in the Beaver Inn in Irsha Street, which was also where Margaret had lived.
I would have liked to show a picture of my son and the other men carrying the coffin, and of the hundreds of people who attended the funeral.  But it wouldn’t be right, somehow.
It was really quite a day
