A jackdaw checks in to the old nest
I spotted two jackdaws on this ash tree's trunk and the old rotten branches. One of them inspected the old hole created by a green woodpecker a few years ago (nine years to be exact). Since then it has slowly been enlarged and re-occupied by a variety of beasts, both birds and squirrels.
the tree is not in good shape. The top part of the main trunk broke off some time ago and I've been waiting for the limbs to go as well. The appearance of the holes in obviously rotten wood suggest it won't be long.
We had a much better day at the market today, compared to a rather disastrous Friday. There were lots of visitors to thew town on day trips and weekend breaks, which is a reflection of the publicity the town has been getting as a favoured place to both live and visit. It seems to be good for business, if not the rising house prices.
