Starling

These are certainly not the most popular backyard birds as they usually swoop in, in large numbers, clean out my feeders in a flash and then move on.  

This is the first one I have seen in the backyard this winter and he came alone, but with snow on the way later today, I am sure he will go back and tell all his relatives.  

Nevertheless, I am always pleased to get a close-up shot of their beautiful colored feathers which from a distance just look black. 

We are preparing for another 4 inches of snow this afternoon and tonight so it will be a quiet day spent indoors by the fire.
