Drumpellier Country Park
We had to go to Glasgow this morning and on the way back stopped off for lunch in the Visitors Centre at Drumpellier Country Park.
This is described as one of Scotland's best-kept secrets. Now I know the reason why. It takes some finding even with a satnav.
However that must be our incompetence because clearly thousands of Glaswegians know the area well, for it is on their doorstep, and despite the freezing cold weather they were queuing up to buy ice-creams.
These lochs were formed over 10,000 years ago with the ending of the Ice Age. Primitive flint tools were discovered around the Woodland loch and these discoveries date the first signs of man to nearly 6,000 years ago.
The lochs at Drumpellier are part of a chain of Kettle Ponds formed towards the end of the last `Ice Age.
Today thousands of Glaswegians enjoy this country park gifted to the town of Coatbridge in 1919 by Mr Carrick Buchanan.
I am glad we eventually managed to find it though I suspect not many folk from Edinburgh or the east of Scotland never visit this "best kept secret".
I am glad we made the effort - thanks to the need for a Blipfoto for the day!
