Wordle
Today's the day ......................... for a word game
Have you discovered Wordle yet?
My good friend Roma told me about it yesterday. It's a simple word puzzle that appears once a day on this website. The aim is to discover the chosen 5-letter word of the day. You do this by selecting a word at random and entering it. At this point you are given clues - namely of the letters you have chosen, which ones are correct and in the correct place (green), which ones are correct but in the wrong place (yellow) and which ones are not in the word at all (grey). You have six attempts to get the word right.
Apparently Wordle has had a meteoric rise in popularity since its launch last autumn. It was developed by Josh Wardle, a software engineer based in Brooklyn but originally from Wales, who developed it for his puzzle-loving partner. The pair played it for fun on their sofa, and other users slowly began to join them. He now confesses to being somewhat overwhelmed at the response but has promised to keep it simple, which he thinks is at the root of its popularity.
If you have a spare minute tomorrow - give it a go .....................!
