Strange feature on the kitchen wall

I discovered today that one of the bolts holding the outdoor unit of our air conditioner was pulling out of the wall. Not wanting to take everything apart and repair the masonry I managed to sort the problem by fitting this threaded bar right through the wall. It reminds me of the story of a foreign engineer looking for bugging devices in his Moscow hotel room, he found a nut and bolt like this one protruding through the floor under his bed - so he took a spanner to it. Three people were killed when the chandelier fell from the ballroom ceiling........
