Surface #7
One half of the buffet (my Mom called it a “credenza”) storage unit we bought when we got married…it was very inexpensive and stained dark brown. I faux painted it a long time ago when we moved here …..it also has held up well…
The poinsettia is hanging on since xmas, of course, the books are a few of my handmade ones, (elephants, gorillas, one with Fiona, and Mom's stuff) The canopic jars are the story here…Souvenirs of the larger ones made of sandstone or ceramic, in which the Egyptians buried the important organs of the dead during mummification.. The lids evolved over centuries to depict the four sons of Horus and each was associated with one of the 4 organs : jackel/stomach, baboon/lungs, falcon/intestines, human/liver. The heart was the seat of the soul and left in the body. We carried them on the plane in the huge crush of people leaving Cairo during the revolution of Jan 2011 and still we had to open them up to have them looked at because they were so heavy. One for each grandchild. The ribbons are marking who wants which. Part of a Northwest coast print on the wall. (David Boxley, Tsimshiam , Raven and Cormorant)
Didn’t do the whole piece of furniture because I recently blipped the other end. Will avoid yet another letterbox crop. You see I thought about this project early last summer when I was stuck at home more with the brand new hip. I’ll add this tag to that one. (and perhaps others….)
