The Art Of Pruning

Today's image was supposed to be an arty shot of a lovely sunset with an atmospheric moon as a backdrop. Unfortunately, it's a bit of an epic fail on this front as the sunset never really materialised and the moon is just a tiny dot in the sky!
So therefore I have had to include part of my newly pruned apple tree to generate any kind of interest whatsoever - even that may be stretching it! :-)
Our ancient old apple tree is gnarled, twisted and has been ravaged by a rather comically named fungul disease called apple canker but has survived for decades and magically appears to revive in the spring following a good prune in the winter. It still actually produces a good crop of apples every year.
However, last year something very strange happened during the summer. I had noticed that the tree had a very decent bounty of fruit and resolved to pick them a few days later and make an apple crumble - but when I returned every single apple had disappeared from the tree. Either someone had got into our garden and stolen them all (without taking anything else!) or we had a visitation from some Pterodactil sized birds who have a penchant for eating whole apples without leaving any trace!
