Sebastião Salgado
Today I went to London to see the Sebastião Salgado exhibition at the Science Museum called Amazonia. It is an exhibition about the indigenous people and landscapes of the Brazilian rainforest, and it is the result of seven year's work with the communities there. It is a vast exhibition, and you need at least 2 hours to see it - but it is breath taking and fascinating. I learnt so much about the Amazon rainforest and its 'flying rivers' (the aerial rivers that carry more water than the Amazon river itself) and the indigenous tribes that live there. His photography is wondrous, and it is well worth a visit.
I went with a friend and we had a quick lunch afterwards at Carluccios which was very standard fare and nothing exceptional.
From next Thursday now that Omicron has peaked and so many people are vaccinated, our Covid safety measures are to be scrapped, no more masks are necessary and people can get back to working in offices again, something that is very much welcomed by younger staff members. Many will welcome these changes, especially the businesses that have been struggling, and many will be forecasting doom and gloom due to the lifting of these measures. The government are damned if they do and damned if they don't. I think one of the major problems is that society is so used to lockdowns and safety measures they cannot get used to living without them anymore.
