A bit of Pandering
Off to Dunollie this morning - the Woodland Trust, who manage Dunollie Woods, put out a request for volunteers to come along and cut bamboo - they'd like to eliminate the areas of Sasa palmata, a Japanese bamboo which is very invasive here.
Fifteen folk turned up, plus a man and van from Edinburgh Zoo. All the bamboo we cut will go to feed the Zoo's pandas and various other animals. We filled the van in an hour and a half, so I expect he'll come back sometime soon for the rest!
When I put a picture on Facebook a lady came on to say that she'd met a passing lady on an earlier bamboo cutting day who said that she remembers that bamboo some 47 years ago - it was a patch a couple of metres across. Pity they didn't take it out then!
