Two Birds
While pruning apple trees today, I saw the first of two bird sightings. The first came as I trimmed this tree. I took a random look up, and saw a bald eagle sailing about 20 feet above me. Magnificent. The second came when I finished, and was back in the house. We were in the kitchen when we heard a sudden BANG! We had no idea what it was. I went outside, and found one of our beloved resident California quail dead on the patio. He flew headlong into the house, not a window, which makes it that much stranger. But the quail are a little family we follow, and we are so sad at losing one of the flock.
Tom said, “Why don’t you bury it out by Oreo?” and then added, “I don’t think I can take any more death here now.”
