Beads of courage
An item on display at the excellent free exhibition about cancer at Manchester's Museum of Science and Industry.
Each bead represents a medical intervention experienced by a child with cancer so at the end they have a physical artefact describing their experience. For example, every black bead is a time they had a needle stuck in them. I had a hospital stay in 2018 where I kept a 'prick count' but mine only reached double digits, not the hundreds this child Ted went through. (they are in remission :))
