One of those days
I decided to drive into Fife today without any firm destination in mind and found myself on the road to St Andrews. A very familiar road, I'm the only member of our family who didn't study there, although I spent a lot of time there when Colin was a student and then frequently drove up and down when each of the girls was there for four years.
I got to the Diageo factory in Leven, which is when I was more or less committed to my route, only to find traffic at a stand still. It took me 30 minutes to travel to Blacketyside, a distance of under two miles. There was no explanation for the queue and when I eventually got there I found two men and a digger! They had clearly got the phasing for the temporary lights very wrong, a two mile queue to the west and 10 cars waiting to the east! Grrrr!
After that all went well, I travelled freely up over the hill and into St As by Craigtoun which gives a lovely view of the town.
I wandered fairly aimlessly around the town, popping into various shops. It was nice to be somewhere different and with no agenda. I went into Fisher &. Donaldson and picked up a Dr Floyd's loaf and a Burns biscuit, see extra. A steak pie from Minick the butchers completed my shopping spree, all rather mundane really.
I couldn't find myself anything I fancied for lunch so I headed along to Balgove where I had a half and half soup and sandwich. I did approve of the 'proper' soup spoon. The soup was tomato, apple and celery in case you wondered and the sandwich was ham.
I went for a browse in the shop and picked up a couple of delightful finger puppets for Josie as one does. A blip for another day.
I decided to go a different route home around the back of Cupar and avoiding Leven, just in case! A couple of junctions north of the Forth Bridge though, the overhead signs started to warn that the motorway I was on was closed just south of the bridge. I was glad it was over the bridge and that I did not to have to take the 30 mile diversion via Kincardine! Once over the bridge I adopted diversionary tactics, turned off the dual carriageway and went via Kirkliston and the Glasgow Road. I got home fairly smoothly without further delay.
I believe there had been an accident but the signs weren't very helpful referring as they did to the Scotstoun Junction which I had never heard of. It turns out it's the new junction where the A90 goes off the M90 and along to the Queensferry Road towards Edinburgh. Live and learn.
A nice day out, a relaxing one to prepare me for a full on day tomorrow.
Keep safe folks
