Dava Station

In contrast to the bright sunlight of Forres yesterday today on Dava the weather was dull and dreich but we came upon much of interest. We found the track through the trees which leads firstly to Dava Station then crosses the Dava Way leading upwards to Aittendow. A track which on the 1873 OS map links several long gone farms and 'piles of sods'. .

The main shows Dava Station House which was on the northbound platform of the mainline connecting Perth and Forres. This was a remote station and also served as the local post office. The single storey wooden building attached to the house was the waiting room. Beyond this were station cottages (Extra) The platforms at Dava were long enough to take 12 carriage trains The station was at an elevation of over 900ft on a high exposed section of Dava Moor, winter snow drifts frequently caused blockages of the line which operated from 1864 - 1965.

All the station buildings are now private houses and the Dava Way deviates from the route of the line to avoid them.
