Mr Gumpy’s Car

As there was a planned electricity outage at home today ( also no water as that’s pumped up the hill) we had a trip to the British Motor Museum near Gaydon. I was sceptical not being a “ petrol head” but actually it was a few good hours of interest and nostalgia, from the earliest “car” to futuristic concepts and film creations. I enjoyed the social history commentary about car building in the West Midlands too. There’s a dedicated Vauxhall floor, ( happy memories of our 1985 Cavalier !) as well as a hugeJaguar section. The best bit IMHO was the collection where they store the cars needing work or not on current display, where we found several of our old family cars of the 60s and 70s!
This is the Austin Seven Chummy of the type used in John Burningham’s Mr Gumpy series, a much loved and well used story as a teacher.
We had lunch out then got home after 3 when the power was restored. Perfect.
I was supposed to see House of Gucci at the cinema tonight, but the friend I was going with , was delayed , so we just had fish and chips here, and caught up :)
