Suspect that nearby black square bit (a TRIAC) has blown, and would be awkward to remove, so I've taken the easy eBay route of ordering a refurbished pair of circuit boards. Could save a lot of bother in the long run, and only requires soldering a couple of wires, and swapping over the heater elements, which are okay.
