A Sunday walk around the floating harbour

is one of the most popular activities enjoyed by Bristolians. Full of beautiful light and waterside reflections, history, and most importantly cafés and restaurants.  It’s a circular walk taking one to two hours depending on how much you dawdle. I went with my nephew yesterday, we are good companions although he’s 43 years younger than me.
This shows the Underfall yard, the business end of the floating harbour.  Still working boatyards. Also just beyond here are the massive lock gates which maintain the constant water level, and through which visiting boats and ships must pass. The mechanical technological side of this place is fascinating to watch. And the occasions when the main road into Bristol from the south is closed, and swings aside to allow tall ships to pass through. The red brick building with the chimney behind is now half café/half photographic exhibition. Sadly it was closing by the time we finished our coffee and cake, but I will definitely go back to have a proper look. On the skyline to the right you can see Royal York Crescent which I showed  you on January 12th.
