The lowering sun casting its light on the grasses and trees beside a tall air shaft.  The tower which appears on the map of 1854, is a feature on the landscape indicating the previous existence of coal mining at the nearby Easthouses Pit.  Now there are very few signs of the once important coal industry in the area apart from the Scottish Mining Museum at Newtongrange.
