A rude awakening

A rude awakening is what we had just after Christmas when we discovered that there was a blockage in the drain leading out of our property to the main sewer in the road outside. When we lifted this manhole cover, it was not a pretty sight! Fortunately we were able to get a specialist drains firm out the same afternoon who cleared the blockage and then showed us the problem with their CCTV equipment. It turned out that we had an old pitch pipe of a type that was commonly fitted in the 1950s and this had started to degrade causing a build up of material that resulted in the obstruction. Remedial work, including relining the whole length of pipe, was carried out last week by two very cheerful and competent engineers and so all is now well and flowing nicely.
