California Dreaming

Our summer holiday in California will take in Monterey so I've been catching up on Steinbeck; finished the marathon of East Of Eden, now on the much shorter Cannery Row.

One of the most interesting facts I came across has nothing whatever to do with California; in Cannery Row there is a character called Hazel ('a young man of great strength'). Everyone laughed when I called my tom cat Hazel. I am now vindicated.
