We went to Whitehaven today . I had heard that the Rum Story at Jefferson’s Rum Shop was good. It was interesting . There is a lot to read and it’s hard to take it all in. But there’s plenty to learn about sugar and slavery. Much of it pretty shocking.
The extra shows a slave collar used for control and punishment on the trading ships.
After that we went to Parton beach where I had read that you could find fossils. It was very cold and bleak and grey so we didn’t stay long, and didn’t find any fossils. There were a few dog walkers around and their high viz jackets and a bit of seaweed provided the only colour there.
