Peacock
In the Ponta Vermelha (Red Point) area of Maputo sits the President’s Palace, the head of the government’s residence. There are a few streets and blocks here that no one ever quite understands, and some dead ends where you’re not allowed to walk lest the security services think you’re trying to threaten the Pres. One sure bet is the pair of peacocks often found on the streets, probably originating from the President’s lawn. Incongruous to see but interesting to walk alongside on the pavement.
