Rum Story

Weather deteriorated again today so we went to Whitehaven to visit The Rum Story.   Whitehaven has a history of association with the slave trade and the Rum Story is a museum that tracks the history of the Jefferson family who imported Molasses and made Rum with it.

The exhibition on 3 floors was well done and very interesting,  covering the process of distilling rum,  growing sugar cane and the role of slavery.   The conditions that the slaves endured during their passage to the West Indies were terrible.
