Wood Pigeon

Today was the first day of the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. Of course you know what little dickie birds are like for telling stories. News of this survey spreads quickly in the bird community and only the most loyal of our garden residents stay to be counted. Goodness where the rest disappear to.

So the largest number of species we got in any of the hours we watched was 10:-

Blackbird, blue tit, chaffinch, dunnock, great tit, greenfinch, house sparrow, pheasant, tree sparrow, wood pigeon. In one of the other hours we had a siskin.

Our most numerous birds seen at any one time are pheasants and greenfinches but the birds which hang around the longest in view are the pheasants and the wood pigeons. The wood pigeons nest and roost in a huge Chamaecyparis 'Lanei Aurea'.
