Convoy

Rollin', rollin', rollin...

We here in the Nation's Capital are currently under siege. Driven by fears of Bill Gates' microchip in every vial of vaccine, the minority (9%) of truckers that have not been vaccinated in Canada have taken it upon themselves to form a convoy and drive to Ottawa to protest the removal of their freedoms. 

The main sticking point for these champions of the pointless is the law enacted by the government that prevents unvaccinated truck drivers entering Canada from the United States. It is, they argue, a discriminatory rule. The fact that the United States has the same legislation in place to stop any truck drivers from crossing into the USA if they are not vaccinated is, seemingly, a moot point.

Let me recap: in essence, the aim of the convoy is to protest a policy that prevents unvaccinated truck drivers from returning from a place to which they could not get access. Well, they have to do something with their free time.

So, here they are. And fair enough. Except the convoy, as all of these antivaxxer protests seem to be, has been coopted by every single Alt/Far Right group in power. We have anti-abortionists, white supremacists, evangelists, anti-multiculturalists, antivaxxers, conspiracy theorists, neo-Nazis (see Extra Photo), misogynists, Western separatists, the Duke of Hazzard fan club, nihilists, the anti-LGBTQ crowd, anti-elitist, anti-communist, anti-capitalist, anti... well, you get the picture. And this convoy, which numbers several hundred trucks now, has gridlocked the city centre.

Of course, and depressingly, the Conservative party have decided that this is a bandwagon on which they must jump. "Justin Trudeau is taking away our freedom," is the motto - and the Tories, led by spineless O'Toole and Weasel Poilièvre, both in their shiny blue suits, have been taking the Republican route and supporting (with discretion) the truckers and convoy. It's convenient as long as there is no violence - and if there is violence, then they can step back and claim that the "small minority doesn't represent the whole movement".

It is sickening. Watching these people parade their ignorance and crass stupidity to the world makes me want to vomit.

Ottawa has pretty much closed down for the weekend. Shops are closed, restaurants have closed, hotels have closed. It's minus 30. 

What a mess.
