Ballast Point
A long walk around Birchgrove and Balmain, sticking close to the water for the breeze. Ballast Point Park is on the site of a former Caltex depot with sculptures and public art that reflect its industrial past. Plus poetry old and new.
Main: “Stone statues of ancient waves, tongue like dingos on shore”, from Les Murray’s “Death of Isaac Nathan”.
Extra: “Like us, water dances to and fro, between the earth and the sky”, John Tranter.
It was the wrong time of day. Online there are stunning photos taken at sunset.
