No leftover marzipan

With one of the book tokens I received for Christmas, I bought Nigel Slater's The Cook's Book. It is such a lovely book to read, not just for the recipes, just hearing his voice as you read it.

This recipe is from a previous book of his, The Kitchen Diaries II. Nigel includes it as a possible way of using up leftover marzipan in January. There is never leftover marzipan in this house!  It rarely makes it back into the cupboard - I could make myself quite ill with it! 

Anyway, this excellent recipe is for Almond, Marzipan and Berry Cakes. Nigel's take on the little cakes he ate so many of in Norway!  I don't have six small tins, so made one large cake instead. I think Mike and I will manage it!
