Calm before the Storm
This morning a trip to Sizergh Castle. It’s less than twenty minutes away but despite being National Trust members we’ve not been until now. The Strickland family acquired the estate in 1239, and still live in the house, presumably as tenants of the Trust. These days they are the interestingly named Hornyold-Stricklands.
We walked from the car park up to Helsington Barrows, with good views of the Lythe Valley, as well as south to the Kent estuary. As we walked the blue skies of the earlier morning were moving eastward, and it greyed rapidly with diminishing visibility. Not good for photography.
And now ….. Storm Corrie has arrived.
We’ll be back for more walks. There were plenty of people there, but the wide open spaces meant that it wasn’t an issue for us, J wore a mask and was comfortable. The house (closed for winter) looks fascinating, but that might be out of bounds for us for the foreseeable future.
