Lorimer Exhibition

I went to see an exhibition of John Henry Lorimer paintings in the City Art Gallery in Edinburgh this afternoon with my wife. We are both familiar with his work from books and, I confess she was a lot more enthused by his work than me. On the page they seemed are twee and rather sentimental. While this is partially true it was wonderful to see his work 'in the flesh'. His modelling and use of light is stunning. Lormier painted very few small paintings, at least judging from this exhibition. The large canvases are wonderfully full of calming details. Well worth seeing if you are in Edinburgh before the end of March.
