Home Is Where the Hole Is

This was taken just steps away from my aunt (Joyfullife) and uncle's (Passages) residence. I spotted it last night when it was too dark to shoot.

In addition to the interesting juxtaposition of red shutters and green leaves, the structure itself begs a lot of questions...What was this exactly? Why is it still here in this incarnation? How has it remain untouched by vandalization. (which is what most likely would have befallen it in L.A.).

I'm sure that had I investigated further, I could have found some answers, but there was a bakery around the corner just begging to be frequented.
