Plea for the tree

‘Don’t cut our tree’ says this note that has appeared on a tree on our regular forest loop. The strange thing is that the tree fell during a storm a year or so ago, and has been lying quietly across the path ever since. A properly miserable, wet, sleety, icy day. We stayed home and hid for most of it.
